Any one know where the best down load site to get a 30 day trial version of the WS MQ File Transfer Utility
Need to evaluate its functionality for a project.
Just wanted to get a 30 day or so version at this time.
Poking around so far all I am finding is docu.

OoopS ... looks like FTE is part of MQ V7.0 !!??
Am I right about that ??

There is a file transfer facility included with WebSphere MQ version 6 and version 7.
It is not the same as WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition. WMQ FTE is robust and enterprise ready, the file transfer tool included with WMQ is at best a technology demonstration.
The two code bases are unrelated.
If you can not find a trial download of WMQ FTE on http://www-01.ibm.com/software/integration/wmq/filetransfer/index.html then there may not be a trial edition, and you will need to speak to your IBM Sales Representative to discuss getting a demonstration. |

Man I should have checked my email earlier to see your post Jeff!!!
And read your post ... what a freakin confusing waste of time !!!
I am seeing these utilities mqftrcv, mqftsnd, mqftapp they actually work have log files the whole bit ... so I think this is the 'FT' E utility but no this is the 'FT' A ... utility .... it seems to be on my windows box but not my linux box ... but the infocenter says it is on both or was that for FTE????
I even setup up a file transfer ... works great ... but
Then I see this FTE plugin setup for Eclipse but I am not seeing this anywhere on my windows or linux boxes ...
(needless to say I never used these IBM file transfer utilities before so what do I know FTA from FTE from F ME)
OMG!!!! Just shoot me.

I believe that the free file transfer facility that comes with WMQ (and, again, is NOT WebSphere MQ File Transfer Edition) is a separately installable subcomponent. So if you do not find the binaries on your linux machine, then likely the person who ran rpm did not install the rpm package that included the file transfer component.
Please again note that this component is not considered a production caliber tool, and is also not designed and built to be an enterprise file transfer solution.

Just for completeness:
I installed the linux boxes MQ software and went back to the original tar files and looked for an RPM file that might have it. All rpm's were installed and the tar image came from IBM Passport Advantage download site ...
Still no binaries for FT A ... mqftapp, mqftrcv, mqftsnd .. in /opt/mqm/bin
I may have missed loading an rpm but I don't think so ...
Do you happen to know which rpm it would be in ?
I will look at your open source file transfer as well Roger ... and see about getting an eval version of FTE.
Big key question I need to answer for all the FT (whatever) programs:
Can they be set up to act as daemon processes looking for files landing in a directory and pick them up an put them as a message on an MQ Q?

Well, it's possible that the file transfer sample app that comes with MQ does not come with MQ on linux, or that it does not come with MQ for 64-bit linux.
I'm reasonably certain that the file transfer sample app that comes with MQ is not set up to be run in a daemon mode, as again it's not really intended for production use.
WMQ File Transfer Edition will do everything you want it to do in that respect, however. And may provide a better security model than Roger's free tool - but I've not looked at Roger's free tool. |
