Hi,
I have a messageflow that accesses an external Oracle Database. We struggled getting it setup and being able to access from WMQI but were finally able to. The way that I got it to work surprised me. I have read in this forum and on others and been told by some WMQI experts to always use the MQSeries Merant 32 bit Oracle8 ODBC drivers. I could not get this to work. I received an ORA-12154 TNS could not resolve service name error. On a whim, I switched to the Oracle ODBC driver and it worked! I noticed the configuration for this driver prompted me for a userid. I supplied the same userid used for connecting with the Merant 32 bit Oracle8 ODBC driver which didn't work. Any ideas of why the Merant Drivers won't work and is it a big deal to not use them? We are using WMQI 2.1 CSD2, Oracle 8.1.7.

Hi,
I think that Merant Driver for Oracle 8.1.7 also supports the XA transacations. NOt quite sure abt any other driver with MQSI that whether it supports XA transactions or not...

we had similar problems when we were using merant ODBC Drivers for oracle from MQSI , we had all this ODBC drivers installed on the OS we figured out that Merant was conflicting with them and we switched back to Oracle ODBC Driver it worked fine and is still working fine.
when to use Merant ODBC Drivers:
if u are having complex sql statments, if u are doing ordinary SQL selects and inserts and updates then i dont see a reason for them free Oracle ODBC drivers work fine.
any diff views from the above

Hi,
Have you used the Oracle client utility to declare your service?
