IBM buys Omegamon, BMC buys QPasa! - what will be the end? Only two middleware monitoring packages available? |

Maybe only one package to rule them all - Omegasa perhaps... _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Hi,
Personally, I think it is great. BMC will spend at least a year integrating everything into their software world. Hence, it gives all the "little guys" a chance to shine in the product and customer support areas.

It amazes me that they actually PAY people to think up of stupid names like that.
But as with previous BMC offerings for MQ management, they changed the name of the product with every new version.... |

Not sure there was any of that going on
It's always nice to have something that trips off the tongue...and the focus groups, customer surveys etc. they did must surely have been to the benefit of keeping marketeers and HR people employed - doing their bit during this recession _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

I think what we have here is a simple case of overgeneralization. They've (the proverbial they, that is) actually extended the concept of "naming conventions" to their product names, which is such an incredibly inane idea that I can barely control the urge not to wave my fist at the screen like a grumpy old man. And if you think grumpy old men are unpleasant, just you think of grumpy old administrators...
(I'm old at heart, like all administrators)
So in direct defiance to anything the human race had ever learned about marketing (that names have to be memorable and unique), we get illustrious product naming convention:
<familiy> + <processed entity> + <processing entity>
Websphere Message Broker, Websphere Application Server..
Or maybe they just have a finite set of words that they throw into a a big hat and pull out at random (Business, Integration, Message, Service, Server, Process). And to keep things fresh, every decade or so they re-invent a word and throw it in the hat. ("2008 will be the year of the Bus!")
<Emoticon of me sitting discontentedly with my hands crossed and frowning at the camera>

It appears that being an administrator causes premature ageing...no names of course! _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

So that's how marketeers work! How simple, of course - it's the hat!
And there was me thinking ESB was brand of beer by Fullers (Extra Strong Bitter) - of course, it was the first three words out of the hat! |

At least you know why you have a headache after using Fuller's ESB _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Anyone who can pull Fuller's out of a hat gets my vote. |

I find using a glass or other receptical removes it quite easily from the hat.
Obviously if the establishment is serving Fuller's in a hat rather than in a glass in the first place then there's some issue. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

It's like my dad used to say - never do integration sober.
All hail IBM's hat! The giver of life, the namer of names, the bane of any sort of associative reason! A reminder to one and all that time marches on, but IBM remains the same.
an ESB by any other name... |
