Hi,
I am using Ciruclar logging in the project, n I have defined Primary logFile=3,
Secondary Logfile=2.When the transaction is being done and there is no free primary logfile available and the transaction is logged into secondary logfile.
For the next transaction, what happens if the primary file is not free again?
Will it write to the secondary logfile??
After the primary logfiles are available what happens to the secondary logfile? Will the data be lost from the file?
Please can you throw some light on this?

1. yes, when primary is full secondary is used. also for "the next transaction"
2. no data is "lost" during circular logging. the current logfile is filled, and then, if a primary is available, that one is used again. the secondary logfile used before will be handled as any other logfile. it may be flagged "busy" and in use as long as MQ needs it for backout or for restart activities. then it will be flagged reusable, and may be reused whenever a (or this particular) secondary logfile is needed.
it is up to MQ to manage primary and secondary logfiles. all you have to do is to make sure you defined enough of them to hold your units of work and restart information. if all logs are full, units of work will abort (rolled back) using "log space exhausted" or messages like that.
read the system administration guide about logging and about checkpoints in chapter 14 - recovery and restart. _________________ Regards, Butcher |
