Is it possible to apply a fix patch on Windows to an existing MQSeries 6.0.2.4 server to say 6.0.2.7 while MQSeries is still running by doing the .exe -q MQPINUSEOK=1 command?
This is for Windows. I am curious since I would like to know if this is possible to do.
I understand that a reboot may be required and that this is not the recommended approach.
I want to know if the command above will install the MQ 6.0.2.7 or any fix patch without error.
Thanks! |

It is possible, otherwise what would be the utility of the MQPINUSEOK parameter? I've often used this where the 'owners' would not give me downtime, but I've known the server is going down at a prescribed date/time, but for one reboot only, i.e. the maintenance window doesn't allow take down of the service, reboot, application of FixPack, re-enabling service, and rebooting again.
The major issues to overcome is customer confidence that nothing will happen during the application, and having a rapid recovery plan if WMQ goes belly up on reboot. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |
