Hi All,

I have a MQ Clustered environment.
I m moving to a HACMP enviroment.
I have a question regarding the MQ clients.

In a HACMP Standby environment(Active-Passive) , during normal operation.
My MQ client is connected to the Active machine' Qmgr , suddenly the Qmgr goes down, Now there will be a switch over and this will take some time , say 3 mins..
Now during this time what will happen to my MQ client, Will i get a 2009 connection broken error ?

if i do get a connection broken error, What other options i have to make sure the connection is up all the time , irrespective of Qmgr failure.

Should i use a Active-Active or a takeover configuration? or should i make my MQ clients handle the connection broken errors.

and If i should make my MQ clients handle connection broken errors.Whats the best way to do it? arrg this also means change to a lot of code.

Pls help.

Thanks.

I'd hope it would be faster than that on an active/passive, but this doesn't affect your question...

Yes.

If the queue manager goes down, the connection breaks. It's as simple as that.

Your clients should always recover from connection broken errors. Even if the queue manager is not clustered/under HACMP, there's a number of scenarios in which the connection would break. Remember that a client connection is to a given queue manager, not to a cluster or an HACMP node.

One popular solution (though not the only one) is to catch 2009/2019 errors and reconnect n times before rethrowing as a fatal error.

This sort of code should be in client code from day one.
