Hello,
We have question on MQ connection fail over from one system to another. With HACMP, MQ connections can fail over primary to seconday server when requried. Bigip5 network device can also fail over connections based on the need. Is there any difference in the way that fail over happens between these two ie HACMP and Bigip?
Thank you very much. |

HACMP failover is an automated process. But you have to do manual failover in Bigip5
Cheers,

Nice to see HACMP has come back into the picture since your previous post here.
The biggest difference is that HACMP fails over more than connections. If you use BigIp to switch to an alternate server, the work currently in progress in the primary is inaccessable. If the server is failed over by HACMP then the work continues from the point of failure without interuption or loss of time. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Thanks Vitor for your response. I agree HACMP is pure fail over and Queue manager maintains its status after fail over and it is not the same with Bigip.

I didnt understand. You mean Bigip can fail over more than 2 connections. |

BigIP can not be used for QueueManager->QueueManager channels. |

No, I meant that HACMP doesn't simply fail over connections. Bigip is simply a network solution that redirects traffic from a downed server to a working one. HACMP produces a copy of the downed server at the point it failed, including the status of all the software & data.
So in terms of solution the 2 products do very different things, HACMP does more than Bigip and does it automatically. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Yes. Bigip cannot be used between two queue managers that we already discussed.
mqjeff and Vitor - Thanks for your valuable responses. |
