Hi All.

I am new to MQ. I need to find MQ Queue Manager port number using the command as I am working on AIX box. Could you please help me with the command for this?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Gaurav

Depending on WMQ method & level (neither of which you mention), it's netstat, runmqlsr or DISPLAY LISTENER.

If it's V6.0 or above, as it should be, look at the attributes of the Listener object(s). If, however, you are using V5.3 (and you shouldn't be) look at the entries in /etc/services and inetd.conf (if the deprecated method has been used), or the start-up script of the queue manager to see if runmqlsr has been used, and if so, which IP Port is being used. Also ps -ef|grep runmqlsr will tell you, if runmqlsr is being used. That's your free fish used up...

Also be aware that even if it's a v6 queue manager it's not mandatory (but is certainly best practice) to be using listener objects. If the queue manager was defined using v5.3 it may still be using the original method.

So if you've got a v6 queue manager which is working, but has no listener objects, don't panic!

(just reach for your towel and be certain the port number is not 42..... )

That would be me naively assuming that being in the process of dragging my current site kicking and screaming into the 20th century (I know we have advanced one more, but baby steps), that no one would be so 'out there' as to continue with anything but that which is righteous...

...now going for a sulk in the dungeon.

A number of sites of my personal experience have upgraded to WMQv6 on the "ain't broke, don't fix it" principle, where a given server has been upgraded to v6, the existing queue managers simply restarted and left in their existing configuration (in some of the more progressive sites, they did a regression test at this point, others just assumed the upgraded queue managers would be working).

So you could easily have a situation where a number of queue managers are using older methods while other queue managers (even on the same server) are using listener objects. Of course, someone might have gone through, edited all the existing configurations, added listeners and so forth but that depends on site workload.

I was simply underlining a point which could be encountered in the real world, rather than disagreeing with you. Stop sulking and sweep the floor before you come back up...
