Hello,
Can any of you learned gentlefolks confirm or deny that a program using the MQ Client V5.3 works with a client channel definition table to select an active and available queue manager from a group of queue managers in that CCDT ...
We tested with various combinations and it works ... we have to go further back now as production is (isn't it typical) badly lagging ...
Ever so much obliged

Yes, it will pick the first available QMGR listed lexically.
MQCONN("*MyGroup")
where "MyGroup" is named as the QMGR in the CLNTCONN that the CCDT is composed of.
Why can't you use a V6 or V7 MQ Client?
5.3 is not supported. |

Thank You,
I will test once I can get a set-up with an MQ 5.3 Client, but your reply makes me feel better.
To respond to your question: "why can't you use 6.x or 7.x Clients?" This is just how bad our software currency initiatives work ... we recommend upgrades and applications simply "opt out" and have some exemption form signed.
I am grateful,

Does the same form exempt them when the application requires support, and they discover there's none to be had from the vendor? Does this mean you don't apply OS patches either?
Frankly, I would have phrased the requirement to move off v5.3 rather stronger than "recommended", but would it have made a difference in this case? I do suspect I'd be stuck exactly where you are. Though more people would have been trouted as collateral damage.
