On AIX when does the disk space used by a queue on var/mqm/qmgrs/QMNAME/queues get freed up.

We are putting lots of messages to a queue so the disk space usage goes up. Then later we get the messages from the queue until QDEPTH = 0, but the disk space usage does not go down.

So our problem is that QDEPTHS can all be zero or low but /var/mqm gets full.

A quick search on this site will give you plenty of answers...

Disk is cheap now, so either grow the file system, or review the max queue depth and reduce it to what is really required; if it can't be reduced, refer to my first statement

You don't mention what version of WMQ you're using. Later versions of WMQ are better at recovering space than earlier ones (generally speaking).

And I endose the comments of my associates regarding searching.

Unfortunately it was not a quick search. Having trawled through 60+ threads I decided it might be quicker to ask the experts while I continued trawling.

I have now found the answer thank you; an answer, obviously, none of you knew, otherwise I suspect you might have provided it!

Are you just trying to get your postings count up )

Assuming I cared about posting counts, I don't think mine needs to be artificially inflated...

Care to share it then? This site, generally, is about teaching fishing, and about the only fish people are likely to be given is a trout

Member for 6 years. Two posts. One to ask a question, the other to castigate people who actually responded with some valid points.
