We have an older W2K server running MQSeries 5.3.11. The c:\ dirive became full due to trace was turned on. Is there anyway in 5.3 that tracing can turn on automatically without intervention? My understanding is that it must be turned on manually from the command line or through the GUI started manually. We are trying to find the root cause as to how tracinging was turned on.
Please advise. |

Someone turning it on is the most likely explaination. AFAIK the queue manager doesn't spontaniously engage tracing for any reason (though I'll stand correction there). _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Is there a setting in MQ to put the trace files in another location? Does it have to be the C:? |

Sorry, the penny's just dropped at my end. Are you sure this is queue manager trace? I ask because:
- Queue manager trace files are written to the trace directory not the root & I don't believe that can be changed
- Queue manager trace files have a maximum size, after which they roll over; hence they shouldn't fill anything. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I don't beleive that when tracing is turned on in 5.3 that it has a field to set it to roll over. I did see that you can give it a different path to put the trace files during an actual installation. Ther should be some configuration file that you can change to have it point to a D;\ location rather than c:\Program Foles\ IBM\Websphere MQ\errors\AMQxxx.TRC on windows. Does anyone know? |

I misunderstood what you meant when you said C: - I thought you meant the root, not the trace folder.
I thought the MaxSize existed in v5.3 as well but bow to your belief as I didn't know trace location was configurable at installation time either!
Any chance you could post a link to that? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Okay, in order:
- that link doesn't refer to the v5.3 version
- the State Of North Carolina is not an authorative source of information on IBM products
- Where on that link does it say trace files can be relocated? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
