Hi everyone,
is there a document out there that describes how a channel initiator acts after a channel encounters a failure? How does ist scan the channel status table and how does it use retry parameters? What ist the protocol here?

Described in the Intercommunication manual. You might want to skim the System Administration manual as well for some discussions on failure scenarios.
