I am not real familiar with Windows, so pardon my ignorance in that regard. I have a Windows server running MQ 5.3 (yes, I know it's old, but I'm not allow to upgrade it at this point). It isn't installed as an mqm user belonging to an mqm group like I've seen it on the AIX boxes I support. It looks like the MQ on the Windows box is running as localsystem (or something like that). MQ runs fine, in the regard that the application uses it just fine. I am trying to use the MO71 to administer it, but can't seem to get it to work (for the Windows box). I know that when I have used it before to administer AIX boxes that the ID I logon with must be a member of the mqm group and security must be regreshed after it's added to make that work. Is it possible that because it's not installed and running as mqm belonging to the mqm group that this is why it won't work? I need to be able to get this running, but I am not sure exactly what I need to do to get it running since I've never had this problem before (then again, I've never tried to use it to administer a Windows box ). Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

It's actually running as a user named MUSR_MQADMIN, the IBM MQSeries Service does the windows equivalent of "su" under the covers.
You do need to have your id added to the mqm group... this may be a local group on the windows machine, or it may be a remote group defined in AD. |

Windows runs the WMQ Service as a LocalSystem account; this is normal. There should be an mqm group and a user called MUSR_ADMIN (who's actually this LocalSystem you see in the Services window) provided by the installer.
Most admins define another account to actually administer the system day to day. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
