task manager display of amqmsrvn process shows very high handle counts (for some servers approaching 500k). The count grows each minute that I'm logged on viewing the task manager processes display. Is this a memory leak and/or cause for concern? What should be a normal amqmsrvn handleCount? The servers in question appear to be running applications successfully.

Update from the author of this post: Perhaps no gurus know about this handle situation. Admins were called in to deal with a performance degradation problem on a Win2K MQ5.3 server. They used a monitoring tool which singled out AMQMSRVN as being a possible "memory leak". I have subsequently looked at a number of other Win2K MQ5.3 servers which are not experiencing performance degradation. These servers too have high handles for AMQMSRVN. I checked a day later and observe that the handle count on AMQMSRVN is rising about 4000 per day. Although I do not think that this is a memory leak, I seek confirmation of that opinion and possibly an explanation as to why "handles" (as displayed in task manager for this process) rise in count and sometimes reach levels such as 350,000 etc.

Perhaps no gurus can remember how v5.3 behaves on Win2k.

There are some gurus who struggle to remember last week...

It's called "out of support" for a reason. Out of support, out of mind perhaps.

Certainly nothing about this rings any bells with me. But it's been a while.

I've also forgotten all about mq v2.1.

are you remembering WMQI 2.1? I worked on this broker and on MQ going back to 1997 but I don't remember MQ 2.1.

There was a MQv2 and it did get support (i.e. 2.1). I seem to remember it was when v5 came up it became more common to refer to 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 because it did matter which one you were using.

That's as much of 1997 (MQ wise) as I remember really. Still don't remember running v5.3 on any Win2k in any detail.

Is that a reference to the Model 8 Sharpened Trout and Bird knife?
