Hello everybody.
I just installed MB v 6.1 on an AIX :
=================================
wbrkadm@lope:/home/wbrkadm> mqsiservice -v
BIPv610 en US
ucnv Console CCSID 819 dft ucnv CCSID 819
ICUW ISO-8859-1 ICUA ISO-8859-1
BIP8996I: Version: 6102
BIP8997I: Product: WebSphere Message Brokers
BIP8998I: CMVC Level: S610-FP02 DH610-FP02
BIP8999I: Build Type: Production
BIP8071I: Successful command completion.
=================================
I did create the Cfg Mgr OK,
but I fail to create a DERBY database to be used by my broker.
The problem (?) is that "mqsicreatedb" is not present
in "/opt/IBM/mqsi/6.1/bin/", neither the rest of the machine.
My question is simple : shall I reinstall MB ?
I did not have any installation problem,
and maybe DERBY is not supported on MB 6.1 ...
Thanks for your support. Seb. |

DERBY is supported just fine on MB 6.1.
But it is only, and this is clearly documented, supported for use by Broker on WINDOWS. |

Sorry, Jeff - I looked into
"System Requirements for WebSphere Message Broker V6.1 for Windows"
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=849&uid=swg27010522
and Derby is also not mentioned there ...
Just a final question : is there a way to have the AIX Broker to use the Windows Derby database ? via ODBC, of course ...
I would like not to install DB2 on AIX ... is possible.
Thanks a lot. |

So you want your lovely AIX box utterly dependant on a Windows machine being available? Don't tell the AIX admin.....
Fortunately, I don't believe the relevant ODBC drivers are available for AIX.
Also of course, I don't believe that's one of the supported databases for Broker on AIX. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Right, and let's be clear. The only reason to use Derby in the first place is to avoid installing, configuring, and managing the DB2 that comes with the product anyway. |

Yes, but
a) if there is no disk space right now,
b) neither the skills are available until next week ...
OK - I shall wait a better admin.
Thanks a lot. |
