Is it necessary, beneficial or pointless to uninstall a fixpack before installing the latest fixpack?

We're running MQ for Solaris Sparc 6.0.2.5 and I'm getting ready to start installing 6.0.2.6. Should I uninstall 6.0.2.5 first or just go ahead with 6.0.2.6?

I vote pointless but harmless.

Go for it.

Hi LouML,

http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg24022324

Quote:
Prerequisites *
Install this fix pack on top of IBM WebSphere MQ V6.0.0.0, V6.0.1.0, V6.0.1.1, V6.0.2.0, V6.0.2.1, V6.0.2.2, V6.0.2.3, V6.0.2.4 or V6.0.2.5.
It was even boxed...

Regards.

I've opened a PMR on this in the past. They said don't bother uninstalling the old FixPack.

Another reason to leave it is it makes fall back faster. If you have problems with 6.0.2.6 and need to get the system back to 6.0.2.5, its faster to just -6.0.2.6 than to -6.0.2.6 and then have to +6.0.2.5

And a good (proven) image backup before fix-packing makes restore much easier should things go bad.

I like to have several alternative methods of falling back should the need arise.
