Hi,

It may not be technical question. We are working on a offshore-onsite model and both the teams access the same dev broker to deploy the code and test it in the dev server.
We are still using MB 5, and our configuration process is not working very well for us.
Is there a way to capture the bar file used for every deployment in the config manager/broker and store it somewhere?

Right now both the teams use toolkit to connect to the broker running in AIX (Config manger in Windows) to deploy the flows and not often does the developers checkin the bar to the configuration management tool before deployment and we have problems post deployment for migration to other environments etc.

I hope you would've faced similar issues. Your suggestions on the process to be followed are most welcome.

Thanks in advance

Vadivel

No, there isn't really a way to capture the bar file instream with the ConfigMgr deployment process.

You must do this with procedures and not with code. A simple procedure is to require that the BAR file that has passed development testing *is* checked into the repository before being deployed anywhere else, and then ensure that your deployment processes for QA/UAT/etc/PROD all start with "check the bar file out of the repository".

Hi all,

mqjeff: It would be possible to prevent the developers from deploying anything onto the broker right ? vadivel could then use the ant scripting to be the only sole means of deployment onto the broker, and the script would pick files only from the CVS repository.

That would teach the buggers to first upload their flows into cvs

Regards.

Alternatively, if this is considered too presecriptive (and I don't, I've just worked on sites where it was) you could automate the build & deploy using ant on a 30 / 60 min cycle. This means that you could still deploy something for testing, but it would be overwritten by the official version automattically unless it was placed in cvs.

Education is always a good answer. Just sometimes it's not a plausible one.

Hi all,

Thanks for all your suggestions. I've used mqsideploy in MB6, does it really work with MB5 as well?
And we are using clearcase as our configuration management tool, are there any plugins available for automating this deployment process?

Thanks,
Vadivel
