Hi All,
What is the impact of using out-of-support software? For ex MQ 5.3 in a production system.
One thing is, its a risk of not having support. We cannot go ask IBM for any issues.
Does the impact equal to using un-licensed software?
Thanks |

No vendor support, or if you can persuade them to provide support I would expect a lot of zeroes on the invoice.

Study the EULA and if unsure ask IBM, although I can guess what their answer will be... _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

I think you've put your finger on the key risk, especially in production. Note also that IBM no longer tests v5.3 against new software, nor will whoever makes your OS test WMQ on any new platform. Cross your fingers every time you apply maintenance.

AFAIK it does not, though your friendly IBM rep is the only source of license information for your particular license. I believe the license is for WMQ, not a specific version of it. Hence no need for a new license moving from v5.3 -> v6 unless there's another change (e.g. migrating to new hardware at the same time).
Again, only IBM can advise on you on your license. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Thanks for your reply.
Does EULA mean End User License Agreement? Is it the LA_en.txt under MQ_INSTALL_DIR/licenses?? |

Yes. Depending on how you obtained your software (Pack or download) there will be a whole stack of pamphlets with it, or License Agreement files when it installs. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |
