Hello All,

The environment:
z/OS 1.9
MQ for z/OS v6

I have messages that arrive on my z/OS queue managers' Dead Letter Queue that originated from another platform. I can browse my DLQ and while I can read the Dead Letter Header fields, the original message body is still in some other CCSID. I expect this.

When I run CSQUDLQH with ACTION(RETRY) or ACTION(FWD), the messages are being converted to the z/OS queue managers' CCSID when they are redirected to the appropriate target queue. Is there a way to prevent CSQUDLQH from reading the DLQ with MQGMO_CONVERT?

The chapter on CSQUDLQH in the Systems Administration Guide is silent on this topic, with no apparent rules table keyword available to control this. I would like to preserve the original message body exactly as it was originally sent to the z/OS queue manager. Yes, I can write my own, but I have no project funding for this.

Thanks.

Does the receving application process the message "as-is"? If it converts the message, what difference does it make if the DLQH converts when it requeues it?

afaik there is no way to prevent CSQUDLQH to use get_convert (never noticed that, btw) but i certainly could think of conditions where a get convert is not wanted.

i suggest you open at least a question at IBM, from my point of view it is a defect. the DLQH should not touch the message content, this also includes conversion.

Virtually all of the receiving applications would do a Get w/Convert on the messages. We have strongly encouraged our app developers to send cross-platform messages using printable characters (plain text) only. That CSQUDLQH converts the messages before redirecting them to their correct destination should not matter. The application will issue a Get w/Convert and still get the same message value.

I will inquire with IBM to see what they have to say.

Thanks for your opinions.
