Can anyone tell me how to book a test for this exam?
Which books should I purchase to prepare for the exam?
What is the exam schedule?

There is an outline of what is on the test. Study that in the Info Center.

Self Study is fine for the experienced professional.
imho, if you don't know the answer to the question when you read it, guess and move on. You will not magically figure it out and it is not that big of a deal.
Good for you for considering the test. It is a way for you to distinguish yourself.

In this same area of the IBM site, you will find that you can take a timed sample test for $10 USD. I highly recommend this, unless you are quite sure you are ready for the test!
The tests themselves are given at local testing centers. You can find links to these testing firms on the IBM site, too. The test schedules are set by the testing vendor.
Have you already passed the system administration test (#994)? I would take 994 first, personally, but that's just my own opinion.
