Hi,
If we have a broker1 deployed on S/390 using config manager1 on Win2k then is it possible to have a back up broker broker2 on a differnet s/390 system without deploying. i.e can we clone this broker2 by simply having a system back up of the broker1 system?
The requirement is to avoid re-deploying and to achieve recovery of the broker when the broker1 system goes down.

Murali,

I think this is possible as long as cloned broker (broker2) is used with the same configuration manager (configmgr1). You need to make sure the queue manager and Channel names remains same on another (broker2) system. I would recommend that you take backup of DB2 broker database and restore it on another system.

Hi Kiran,
Thanks for the response. On the same lines of the requirement as I specified, it is actually meant as a back up for the broker1 system.
So how far can we go for duplication?

1. Should the broker2 be created before-hand using the standard procedures for creating a new independent broker and then do a hard disk level copy from the broker1 system for broker db2 tables and queues?

2. Assuming that the broker2 system is kept updated on an almost realtime basis i.e file systems on broker1 adn broker2 (db2 and mq qs) are kept in sync.
Also assuming that the name of the queue manager, channels, user created queues used inside the message flows on which broker runs is same for both the systems.

If the broker1 system goes down and we bring up broker2 system, will it be able to continue processing of messages?

3. Is MQ Series level cloning also possible in the same manner, i.e will keeping in sync the file systems on both the brokers make the queue manager on broker2 to retrieve and process all the persistant messages that were being processed by qmgr on broker1 before it went down?

-Murali.
