We have a WMB 6.0 broker & CM with DB2 8.2 and MQ 6.0 (all on AIX)

I want to install WMB 6.1 alongside, creating another broker and queue manger to allow parallel development on this version with no impact on the WMB 6.0 broker.

The documentation implies all this is possible, but one thing I have read is that it is necessary to use a 64-bit DB2 instance for WMB 6.1

The current instance is 32-Bit - so does anyone know if this will cause a problem? Can it be changed to 64-bit without impacting WMB 6.0?

Hi,

I think that it works if you upgrade you db2 server and clients to 9.1(64 bit) and change ODBC -inis and command environment of the broker to support that version.

But do it first at the development env. to see how it works in you case ;.)
And check that you have enough "power" to run new resources parallel with existings on you machine.

WMB 6.1 also supports DB2 8.2 and MQ V6.

I really can't upgrade anything that is currently working.

I need to understand about 32bit vs 64bit DB2 instances on DB/2 8.2 and if it can be changed from one to the other without any software upgrade and without impacting the existing WMB 6.0 brokers?

The aim is to add WMB 6.1 without any other changes or impact.

Is it necessary to use a 64bit DB2 instance with WMB 6.1, or can I make all the execution groups 32 bit?

Quote:
If you use WebSphere MQ Version 6.0 as a transaction manager, all datasources connected to DB2 from message flows in both 32-bit and 64-bit execution groups must connect to 64-bit DB2 instances.

you need 64 bit database for 6.1

the solution here is create another instance of 64 bit on db2 8.2 ... this is possible.. chk out db2 infocenter...

Can you supply the source of your statement so I can see the original text?

It's just that the comment I quoted also applied to WMB 6.0.

Creating another instance would be one approach, thanks.

I'm a little confused that none of you have looked at
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmbhelp/v6r1m0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.etools.mft.doc/ah25530_.htm
yet.

On the other hand, I'm a little confused that zpat is doing anything that's not actually on zOS...

Working on WMB for z/OS - would be my dream job!

The nearest I have been to that was when I was co-authoring a Redbook on WMQI alongside another group working on WMQI on z/OS.

But I do have a Big Iron background - all the way back to MVS 3.8

Who wouldn't dream of that?
