Do I need to use SSL to get compression with cluster senders and receivers ?
Is that how I do compression ?

No, in any case SSL does not give you compression. It adds some overhead and makes the channel even more chatty if it were. In most of the cases you are now transmitting as well some noise as most of the encryption/decryption protocols give you a byte aligned format.

You could get compression in 5.3 with a channel exit. However in view of the complexity of the implementation I would have to suggest you upgrade to V6.0 or V7. BTW I am sure my colleagues have already pointed out to you that V5.3 has been out of support for nearly a year now?

Let it die and upgrade
