A remote queue, RQA, on server SERVERA was defined with rqmname=QM2 and xmitq=QM1. (Both of them should have been QM2). Thousands of messages ended up queuing on the local transmit queue, QM1, on SERVERA. A change was made to the RQA definition changing rqmname to QM1. All of the messages were then sent to QM1, but they all ended up in the dead letter queue.

What should the procedure have been to have the messages be sent and have them go to the local queue?

Thanks for your help.

Try creating a remote queue with the following Definition:

Queue Name: RQA
rqname : LQ2
rqmnane : QM2
xmitQ : QM2

Now the message will go to LQ2.
I guess, you have not given any name on the rqname field while creating the remote queue.

Xmit header of the message is without the local queue name, thatz why message is routed deadletter queue.

Well did the queue exist on the other box, you need to look at the DLQ
reason and determine what the problem is from that

Yes, the queue existed on the other box. The reason for them going to the DLQ was that the the rqmname in the transmit queue header of the messages didn't match the qmgr name.

I could have changed the xmitq value in the remote queue definition for for RQA, but that would work for only future messages. I still have the problem of getting the messages off the "invalid" xmitq.

Any thoughts?
