I have instaled WMQv5.3 on a AIX using ROOT login . I logged in as root and then did a 'su - mqm' and when I give the command crtmqm it gave me an error message AMQ5653. I looked up in the MQ messages manual and it says The mqm user is not defined. I verified that the id mqm already exists and belongs to the group mqm.
I have't instal any Fixpack .... only MQ from AIX CD.......
There is an entry in /etc/passwd for mqm
Does mqm have a home directory? (/var/mqm)
What are the permissions/ownership of the mqm home directory? (The permision of (/var/mqm) is -rw-r--r-- )
After su - mqm what does the id command show? (
groups?
Using smitty can you change show characteristics of the mqm user? (yes)
Was the WMQ5.3.0.11 installation recent? Was it installed using root user authority? (Yes for both)
Can you uninstall then re-install MQ on the Server?(I have done it but the problem persist )
Have you looked at the AIX Quick Beginnings guide for WMQ?(It says it would be created automaticaly & has been created......)

Can you check that the files within /usr/mqm and /var/mqm are actually owned by the user and group mqm? This problem can occur if the user mqm has been deleted and recreated since installation and has been allocated a different uid.
It may be worth running lppchk on the mqm.* filesets. _________________ Philip Morten
