There is 3 queue manages define in a cluster. QM1, QM2 and QM3. Now any of this queue manager can send a message to a queue manager sitting outside a cluster. For example:

QM1 (cluster) to QM2 (outside the cluster) to QM3 (outside the cluster) to QM4 (outside the cluster).

QM2 (cluster) to QM2 (outside the cluster) to QM3 (outside the cluster) to QM4 (outside the cluster).

QM3 (cluster) to QM2 (outside the cluster) to QM3 (outside the cluster) to QM4 (outside the cluster).

Now once the message is processed upon arriving at QM4 it will return a reply message back to either QM1 (cluster), QM2 (cluster), QM3 (cluster) . Suppose if the cluster failed, now the messages will be trapped at QM2 (outside the cluster). Now once the cluster is restored, how does the QM2 (outside the cluster) know to which queue manager in the cluster it should send the reply message?. Is this problem know as a bounce off messages?.

Regards,

Eugene

Clusters don't fail. Something goes wrong with a particular component. Hardware failure, software bug, or 99,999 times out of 10,0000 with MQ clusters, operator error. Exactly what that problem is determines how your message is routed during the problem and once its resolved.

I have never heard of that term.

Bad definition of your problem. By your own admission QM1,QM2,QM3 are in the cluster... So how can you have any of your 3 scenarios when clearly only QM4 is outside the cluster? Or does your "outside the cluster" just mean "non clustered queue"?

Clarify and reformulate...

Well, this looks like a confugration that ur attempting with Qmgr alias and multihops, Then in that case ur message will be on one the transmission Q's in an intermediate location.
