Hello all, I am very new to the administration of MQ, so bear with me if this is a "duh" moment.
I am having an issue with a MQ client connection being prematurely terminated when there is no traffic for (a very consistent) 5 min. We're using the MQTT transport with a keep alive timer set > 5 min, so it is very possible to go 5 min w/out sending data. I think I've located the right place to start looking - but I need some info/guideance.
I have seen a 300 sec Heartbeat Interval property on the SYSTEM.DEF.CLNTCONN channel (as setup by the default install script). There is a similar property value set on SYSTEM.AUTO.SVRCONN as well as several others. Would changing any of these values help? Do I have to restart the system after applying changes to actually affect this timeout? Is there potentially another place to look for this timeout value?
One obvious solution is to simply increase the MQTT connection keep-alive to something sub 300 sec - but we're trying to keep the bytes to a minimum as our data transport is very expensive.
Thanks in advance,
S |

Clients connect via SVRCONN channels. I'd look at your SYSTEM.DEFAULT.SVRCONN (or the one you created locally) definition to see what DISCINT is set to. I'd guess 5 minutes. Set this higher and see what happens. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

I'm assuming you are at MQ 6.0, since you linked to the 6.0 Info Center
DISCINT for SVRCONN channels only applies to z/OS QMs:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv6/v6r0/topic/com.ibm.mq.csqzaj.doc/sc11040_.htm
Heartbeats don't apply here. They only flow during an MQGET with wait.
TCP Keep Alive, if enabled (should be), won't kill valid but quiet connections.
Either your MQ Admin has set the ClientIdle parm (usually not recomended for reasons you just found) or your network / firewall software is killing your connection.
As a test try doing something, anything over that MQ connection every couple of minutes to see if that "solves" it. _________________ Peter Potkay

I used the feedback button on the InfoCenter page you referenced saying they need to clarify the DISCINT - z/OS - SVRCONN issue so it matches the correct page. _________________ Peter Potkay
