This morning when I checked the cluster transmit queue for one of our cluster queue managers there were eight messages on the queue. I checked the error logs on the target QM (no messages)and verified that the target QM and its listener had been running when the messages were put on the XMITQ. I can understand why msgs 2-8 were still on the queue but not why the arrival of the first message (at 3 am) did not trigger the cluster-sender channel which usually works fine. Unfortunately I did not have access to the source QM so I could check the status of the cluster-sender channel (auto-defined).
I then used the cluster utility 'clusxq' with flags -sxr (statistics, display, re-put) to move the messages to the target QM. Both the stats and the display showed only three messages being transmitted, as did the channel stats, even though the queue depth went to zero and I was able to verify that msgs 6-8 had been transmitted OK (since they ended up in an unattended reply queue).
Has anyone come across similar behaviours?...I am very puzzled. |

I've come across all sorts of weird behaviors when it comes to cluster transmit queues, but it's hard to say what happened to you without more information. One thing that puzzled me; you said: "This morning when I checked the cluster transmit queue"
followed by: "Unfortunately I did not have access to the source QM so I could check the status of the cluster-sender channel"
The cluster transmit queue should be on the same queue manager as the associated cluster-sender channel. How were you able to verify the depth of the transmit queue was nonzero, but unable to view the status of the associated channel on the same queue manager? Are you using some third party tool to view queue depths?

Was under misapprehension that you could not see status of auto-defined cluster channels in MQ Explorer...now I realise you can!
This morning there were 866 messages on the XMIT queue, the target cluster receiver channel was running, the queue depth was increasing.....and then suddenly the depth went down to zero!....at present I have no idea what is going on!!

Tony,
We are seeing the very behaviour that you describe & it is causing us problems. Any chance you worked out what was going on?
Thanks,
Vicky |

I'm just curious, but are both of you using MQ v5.1? There were a lot of issues with clustering in this version, and it became quite a bit more stable in v5.2. I would recommend (and IBM support will too I suspect) that you upgrade and see if the problem persists. _________________ Brandon Duncan

Curiously, I am seeing this behaviour in a 5.2 cluster as well as a 5.1 cluster. I suspect therefore that it is a problem with our setup, but don't know what it is...
In 5.1 the messages never moved off the transmit queue unless we explicitly start/restart the channels.
In 5.2 the messages are eventually read off the transmit queue (after several minutes) without any interference. We will follow this up with IBM support.
Thanks for your help. |

We had this problem on Windows NT with MQ 5.2 cluster. Then we uppdated with CSD04 and now it works fine. |
