I have installed MQExplorer v6.0 on my desktop and have successfully created connections to remotely administer Windows, Unix and Mainframe QM's. I am now trying to do the same for our AS/400 boxes. The AS/400 boxes also have MQ v6.0 server running on them and are at command level 600.

I have created the SYSTEM.MQEXPLORER.REPLY.MODEL queue and the SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN channel.

When I try to create(add) the QM connection I keep getting the following:'Command Server not responding within timeout period.(AMQ4032)'

The command server is running and the queue called 'SYSTEM.ADMIN.COMMAND.QUEUE' exists on the AS/400 box. I've compared the model queue and svrconn channel to other connections that work and they appear to be the same.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be the issue here?

Check the properties on the qmgr. The admin queue might be SYSTEM.COMMAND.INPUT

I found the problem myself. Actually, I admin over a dozen as/400 boxes and for some reason someone other than me STOPPED the command server from running on only one of the boxes. I have no idea why someone would disable only one of the command servers and that is why I hadn't really thought of double checking for that condition.

But once I found out the command server was stopped then I simply restarted the command server and all is well...

Thanks for your help...

so... your next challenge is to find out WHO did it and how... so
you can prevent that person from interfering with your state of mind ever again ....

Why they did it is more interesting. It's a good way to prevent remote administration.
