Hi
Most enterprises run their external B2B communications via for instance a WMB server in the DMZ. Then there's another WMB on the inside. Now, to federate these we need a two-way communication thru the FW via MQ, but many companies have as basic rule to allow only one-way communications, i.e to allow outbound communication thru FW but not inbound.
I am interested in experience here, are there any architectural patterns and best practise on how to get around this?

The best way is to have 2 listeners, and have each listening on a particular IP. |

Search for MA86. It is an old SupportPac which discusses MQ and firewalls. _________________ Glenn |

Also have a look at SupportPac MS81 found here http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg24006386&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en.
This can be used to control MQ connections into and out through a firewall.
Depending on your setup, for example, you could use sender/receiver and requester/server channel pairs to connect to another queue manager. This will only make outbound connections to the target queue manager, but allow you to receive inbound messages. |
