Hi All,
I am bit confused after reading the mqjms guide..
It says if application platform is Z/OS then the application cannot connect in client mode , but only in bindings mode using mq java/jms. I hope this is only for applications running under Z/OS.
We have a requirement for applications running under weblogic app servers in solaris and Windows2003 platforms to connect to a Z/OS queue manager in client mode using mqjms. I assume there is no interoperability issues in doing the same, because for both of these platforms ( unix and win2K3) , client connection is possible as per the documentation
Can anyone confirm whether my understanding is correct? |

Your understanding as stated above is correct.
The z/OS MQ installation will need to have something called the Client Attachment Feature, or CAF. This is not included with a basic z/OS MQ install, its extra. If you don't have it, you won't be able to make a client connection to the z/OS QM from your client app.
Your mainframe MQ Admin will be able to tell you if this is installed. _________________ Peter Potkay

Thanks Peter for clarifying.. I have seen this client attachment feature in the jms guide..Is this something that needs extra licensing? |

Yes, there is an additional charge for the mainframe side to have CAF so that MQ Client applications can connect to your z/OS QM.
In MQ 7.0 there is a "CAF-Lite" for free, which only allows 5 concurrent connections via the channel used for MQExplorer. Even in MQ 7.0, there is an extra charge for CAF if you want to client connect MQ applications into the z/OS QM. _________________ Peter Potkay
