I have just 9 messages in my queue. While i am trying to view those messages it is showing them but at the end giving "MQGET 4, failed with CompCode:1 Reason:2080". Reason is "2080 0x00000820 MQRC_TRUNCATED_MSG_FAILED". I found from previous queries that BUFFER SIZE should be increased. How to increase it and what code/syntax i have to use? Where i have to use it. Can anyone help me in this!

Note: I am using MQ trial version 6.0 on Solaris 10 box

thanks in advance

which program you are using to retrieve the messages

are you using amqsget/amqsbcg sample codes to do so..

yes, as you said, you have to change the buffer to accomodate the messages to view

there are samples given there,

but it wont be good to change the IBM code for the same.

Read/view the code using some RFHUTIL tool

if you are changing, you must have to recompile the same.

look at the IBM support pacs..

Also look at CapitalWare's products.

The buffer is the space allocated in the MQGETting application program. If the message in the queue is too large to fit in the buffer, you get the 2080 reason code.

You need to modify the application program source code, recompile, rebind, re-execute. How you do this is dependent on the source language.

It's no problem at all - they're only samples.

The only thing to remember is if you reinstall (or upgrade) WMQ and choose to install the samples you'll overwrite your version.

FWIW I usually put a larger buffered copy of the 6 usual suspects in somewhere that's not under /opt/mqm for the benefit of developers & similar, allowing proper restrictions on the install lib.

Many, many other solutions are possible, including the various support pacs.

The samples under discussion are written in C. Instructions for remaking the executables are in the APG.
