A channel can be in any state and from MQ Explorer how do we know if the channel is running or idle or?. Is there some sort of colour, like red and green to indicate the status of the channel?

It should tell you the status as a word (ie "Running", "inactive", "stopped" etc). Remember you may have to refresh the display though.

So the best way would be to use the command prompt? Is the command DISPLAY CHS(<channel name>) STATUS or just DISPLAY CHS(<channel name>)?. The reason I ask is because I saw the following command DISPLAY CHS(*) STATUS on the web.

Please note that this is not command prompt level but runmqsc or support pack MO72 (mqsc)

Therefore I assume that mqsc on prompt is faster.

Not necessarily. IIRC Support pack MS0S I believe allows you to submit runmqsc commands to the command server in pcf form...

Enjoy
