We're moving from 5.1 MQ on Tandem S-Series to 5.3 on Tandem Itanium. Our qmgrs are configured as S-series (via saveqmgr). Having problems sending messages to IBM mainframe. Have conversion Y on the sender channel and ccsid 850 on the qmgr. App is writing message to xmitq but ending up in dlq because channel can't convert 850 tagged msg to 500. Tried changing qmgr to ccsid 819 (what it was on s-series) and then tells us it can't convert 819 to 500. Seems we may be missing some conversion tables? anyone seen this before?
Have also tried changing the defaults (or un-commenting them) in the ccsid.tbl with 819 for ASCII and tried 850 for IBM mainframe. That didn't work either as it seems to be getting the 500 from the target qmgr (as you would expect).
Help!
Reinstall MQ. You seem to be missing the conversion tables. There is also some litterature about creating addtional conversions ... surf the net for those...

Did you check to make sure the folks in security didn't lock down the subvol or directory away from MQM group.
