Hi experts,

I have some confusion while reading Queue Manager Cluster manual.

What is different between Distributed-queuing environment and WebSphere MQ Queue Manager clusters?

Thanks in Advanced.

One has the queues distributed, one has them clustered.

Distributed means SDR/RCVR or SVR/RQSTR channels and transmission queues are used to transfer messages between queue managers. The channels are normally configured as one-to-one for all paths which are required.

Clustered means CLUSSDR/CLUSRCVR channels are used to transfer messages between queue managers. There is one "system cluster" transmission queue on each queue manager. There is a minimum required config for each queue manager to have one CLUSRCVR, and at least one CLUSSDR which points to a "full repository" queue manager. MQ then defines more channels automatically to take care of any one-to-one paths which are required.

This is much easier to set up in complex environments than traditional distributed queueing.

Maybe I am just repeating what has been posted elsewhere ad nauseum? Its the first time I have said this, so its now off my chest, and I can quote it from now on..

The terms Distributed and Clustered are WMQ terms describing configuration/topology. One other possible configuration is a single queue manager that is not connected to any other queue manager - neither distributed (private, point-to-point channels), nor part of a cluster (cluster channels).

A queue manager can be distributed and/or clustered.

A WMQ Concepts and Planning manual will help with these high-level definitions.

With distributed queuing, you will generally have one local queue which other remote queue managers will point to using remote queues.

With Cluster queues, you can have more than one instance of a local queue within a cluster of queue managers. Other queue managers that are within the cluster can access these queues without remote queue definitions.

Hope this helps,

Tim
