Hi All,
I am new to IBM adapters and trying to explore different adapters provided by IBM to plug-in with WMB.
I found some links on IBM site but found them confusing ...
Could anybody please clarify what is the difference between WebSphere adapters and WBI adapters?
How IBM adapters are categorised w.r.t their use with WMB,WAS and WPS?
Thanks in advance..
Regards,

WBI Adapters are the older adapter connection technology.
You can use the WBI adapters to connect to EIS systems through JMS nodes in WMB 6.0/6.1. They don't perform as well as the newer adapters: effectively, you have to manage a component that sits between the broker and the EIS, and you communicate using JMS destinations.
The newer JCA adapters are embedded components, and there are nodes in WMB 6.1 that contain this adapter technology for connecting to specific EIS (SAP, Siebel, PeopleSoft).
They perform a lot better (because there's no intermediate component and work directly with the message tree), and are easier to manage. You can also generate message definitions directly from the EIS, which you couldn't do in MB 6.0.

Thanks Matt - for throwing light on usage of WBI adapters.

Does that mean if i use WMB6.1, we doesn't need to install any adapter between WMB6.1 broker and EIS?
Also if you know, could you please provide any reference link which will clarify when to use WebSphere adapters / WBI adapters ?
Thanks a lot.

More over its not required at one extend.
If you use adapters, its required to refresh it ever day, as this happened to me once.
Its is a different piece of software too. managing of those are also countable.

Correct, with JCA adapters it's all internal; nothing extra to install over and above the standard Message Broker.

You might want to start with http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmbhelp/v6r1m0/topic/com.ibm.etools.mft.doc/ac37160_.htm.
Also, I know of some training material that's used at conferences that talks about the differences between WBI and JCA adapters; if you've been to T&M, IMPACT etc. you might have it.
I'm sure there's other material around as well.
Cheers
