Hi All,
I have MQv6 explorer on WIN machine and MQv5.3 QM on Solaris.
I would like to know is there anything specific to be done or we can directly connect to the QM in normal method.
Thanks in advance.

It connects to a v5.3 like it connects to a v6
AFAIK the only thing to add is the extra queue to the v5.3 queue manager(SYSTEM.EXPLORER.REPLY.MODEL???? - some name like that - look it up ) _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Yes, MQ V6 explorer works for MQ V5.3 as well V5.2. I didn't see any issues connecting v5.3/5.2 or v6 queue managers on Solaris from Windows V6 Explorer (I didn't create any additional object's on the V5.3 QM's) _________________ IBM Certified System Administrator- WebSphere Application Server, Network Deployment, V6.0

Hi All,
thanks for all your help.
I am able to connect my MQv6 Explorer to QM running on Solaris and MQv5.3.
However, I had to create a model queue with the name 'SYSTEM.MQEXPLORER.REPLY.MODEL'. Once I created that I was able to successfully connect.
Regards,

Yup Vitor, you were very close to the name of the queue.
FYI, while connecting my MQv6 explorer I used to get an error with this queue name specified ... saying that it was unable to locate this queue ... so I just created it ...

Exactly so. It's one of the default objects on a WMQv6 queue manager but doesn't exist on a WMQv5.3 one (because the MMC works differently). So you need to create it (as you did). _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Testing on MQ v7 beta as I don't have 6atm, but I think the messages are the same...
The error you get when trying to connect says:
"Explorer cannot administer the queue manager because the queue 'SYSTEM.MQEXPLORER.REPLY.MODEL' is not defined (AMQ4400)"
If you click on the details button it opens a the help system which tells you:
"Response
Define the queue <insert_0> and retry."
You do have to work out that <insert_0> means the queue name from the error dialog, but it does tell you how to solve the problem |
