We are planning to upgrade MQ 5.1 to 5.3 on Solaris, and i was wondering if anyone has any documentation / whitepapers on performance improvements between the versions.

Also are there any potential pitfalls which i need to be aware of ?

The best thing to do would be to get the performance reports for MQ 5.2 and MQ 5.3 as they compare to the previous versions. I would also suggest looking at the report for 6 as well.

Only major gotchas I have come across are to do with the ipcc stuff. This should only affect you if you are using multpile file systems on a single system or HA systems as the shared memory and semaphore stuff needs to be global.

I don't think you can "upgrade" your Qmgrs from 5.1 to 5.3, you need to save the definitions + acls, delete the Qmgrs and then re-create.

Just make sure you have a good backup before starting...

You can upgrade but recreating QM is a better option.
