We're looking to install MQ 6.0.2.3 on a VM and we're trying to decide on platform and operating system.
I know it should be straight-forward and have no issues, the same as any other Unix/Linux install but I'd like to be sure.
I've done a search of the MQ manuals and here on the forum but don't see anything specific to installing on a VM.
Can anyone provide any info to help in making this decision such as:
- tips or gotchas to consider in dealing with VM's
- system resource concerns specific to VM's _________________ Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. - The Dude |

I'm not aware of anything, and in theory the software wouldn't know it's on a VM

Clearly you'll need enough resources to run the VM and meet the minimum needs of WMQ. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I gather that you mean VMWare image?
WMQ runs just fine - as fine as VMWare allows. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

We run our WBIMB Config Managers on VMWare servers. For lightweight MQ use VMWare seems fine in our expirience. Nothing special needs to be done at install time or any other time just because its a VMWare image. Just don't try and hammer it with volume. _________________ Peter Potkay

You will need to configure the VMWare image to support your ip addresses. If you are using VMWare images already, you know this.
VM (or z/BM, by the way, is an IBM mainframe operating system; and not to be confused in any way whatsoever with VMWare. Mainframe folks can run guest operating systems (such as z/VM, z/OS, Linux, TPF). You can hammer these guests. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
