Is there a tool to read active MQ logs -- the logs that exist in /var/mqm/logs/*/active?

I know that IBM can read these to help troubleshooting, but wondered if there was a user tool that could do this as well.
thanks

Why would you want to? What's the requirement?

Cressida have tools in their portfolio which might help.

I am being asked by mgmt to understand why we are not capable of reading these logs, and if they would provide any use to us in troubleshooting etc.

My personal thought is that I would not want to read these logs and am happy to send them off to IBM as part of a PMR.

But i need to ask the question so I can provide the info to mgmt.

thanks

There's very little in these logs of value for trouble shooting. Those logs are the "other" logs, which do contain valuable information. All these logs contain are logged messages. In the event of a PMR, IBM are more likely to want the FDC than the log.

Officially, these logs are in a propritory, IBM-binary format and are not used by anything other than the queue manager for message recovery.

It is unfortunate that IBM chose .LOG as the suffix for both mq logs:

1) the recovery and restart logs, where persistent msg gets and puts, alterations to objects, units-of-word activity, etc. are written; and

2) the error recording logs, where error messages used for diagnostic purposes, are written.

In confusion, there is opportunity for a consultant.
