Hi,

We are planning to implement MQ Failover using Microsoft Cluster Software in Windows Environent. We have already order a licence for the same but it take time to get in hand.

We have 3 Queue managers in the cluster and want to test failover.

Does anyone suggest/recommend any freeware software to test MQ cluster failover?

Can we download any opensource software for windows and implement MQ cluster failover?

Thanks,
manish

Please read the relevant section (Supporting the Microsoft Cluster Service (MSCS)) of the System Administration Guide before proceeding any further.

Please ensure you are not getting confused between MSCS and queue manager clustering.

Go to the back of the server and start pulling cables.
Open up Task Manager and start killing random processes.
Open up the CD-ROM tray and pour Red Bull into the hole.

Hi exerk, Peter

Thanks for responding.

We already running MQ cluster and load balancing in MQV6.0 - Windows.
Cluster Name - CLUS
Machine 1 - QM1, QM2 (FR)
Machine 2 - QM3 and QM4 (PR)
Shared Storage - Qmgr data and logs

Now we want failover between above qmgr clusters. If QM1 goes down then QM2 will act as failover (vice versa) and QM3 goes down then QM4 will act as failver (vice versa).

I am going through a document understanding high availability with WebSphere MQ and found - shared disk concept to provide high availabilty to WMQ where Qmgr data and logs are placed on shared disk which we have already setup.

Also we understand that we need HA software like MSCS (Active/Active) or Veritas cluster act as failover in windows environment.

Question is -
If possible, Can you suggest or recommend any freeware software which can managing MQ failover as above (If QM1 goes down then QM2 will act as failover) situation (We are expecting MSCS Software in next 5 days).

Do we need any additional MQ configuration to run failover?
Do we have to create (above) queue managers in new node as standby machine?

If you have any article/link to read more on MQ+MSCS then please fwd me...

Thanks in Advance.

By shared storage do you mean Storage Area Network (SAN) ?

The above tells you how to migrate queue managers to MSCS control, and try using the Info Center link at the top of this page to find it.

If QM1 goes down, QM1 comes up on the other server. There is no QM2.

Please read the chapter on MSCS in the Sys Admin Guide. And read the article on MQ H.A. concepts by Mark Hiscock.
