Just walked past the board at Impact 2008 that said Impact 2009 will be hosted at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, May 3 to 8, 2009. _________________ Peter Potkay

How is the conference this year? I usually attend every other year, but after last year, I wasn't sure I would go again. Did they increase the number of MQ sessions?
Did they talk much about MQ V8? |

They only announced V7 a week ago.

At least "they" listened to last years complaint, I felt there were more sessions on MQ or tech sessions for that matter...
V8 ... sorry nothing on that, just V7 and al it's new functionality... No new Broker V7 announced, but the phrase "tactical" release was used often, so there might be something coming _________________ Michael

Oops, I must of been thinking that "I could have had a V8"
Did they have the hand outs of the presentation available before the session? Did they do the audio recording like they used to do? |

I also just returned. I thought this year was much better than last year for MQ related material (I personally complained to Sandy Carter at the end of 2007 Impact... However, this may have been more interesting because of the new MQ7 presentations. Also, I thought the MQ sessions were jammed together and some of the Intro sessions were scheduled after the detailed sessions. I had a chat with one of the coordinators who asked me what I thought ... mistake. On the positive side, I told him he should work much more closely with lab representatives in scheduling sessions.
that's my 2 cents worth... _________________ Dean Keister |

They had these Feedback sessions this year where 4 or 5 conference attendees got a 1 on 1 audience with an IBM Hursley person. For > an hour you got to list all the possible problems on a given topic, and then all the possible solutions we came up with together. The IBM Hursley person was just taking notes furiously the whole time. Another IBMer helped run the thing.
I felt these were very useful. I heard problems I didn't know existed. Lots of great ideas were thrown around. And right there the whole time was an IBMer from Hursley who I felt was someone who had the power to make things happen based on our problems and possible solutions.
I attended the MQ Clustering one and the MQ Packaging one.
I told them they needed more of these.
Overall I really liked this conference. I learned quite a few new things, above and beyond all the new MQ 7 stuff. I would have had no problem filling my time if the thing went 2 weeks instead of one.
Attendance was a little light in my opinion for the MQ stuff. I think it was all the complaints from last year. Plus poor timing with the MQ announcement of MQ 7. If they announced MQ 7 a month earlier I bet there would have been a ton more MQ people there.
The opening ceremony was great. 10 or so minutes of Cirque de Soleil and then 90 very funny minutes of Drew Carey and the cast of Whose Line Is It Anyway, interrupted by only 20 minutes of IBM SOA will save the world talk.
Plus I passed both MQ V6 tests and they were free so that's always good.
I hope I get to go again next year. _________________ Peter Potkay

I agree with Peter.
The feed back sessions were very good and overall it was a good conference. I do agree that the anouncement date for MQ7 was probably badly timed.
With MQ 7 hitting it GA later in the year I do think there will be some form of WBI MB ?.0 announcement in time for next years IMPACT which should justify going again. _________________ Keith Guttridge
