I have setup a desktop shprtcut on an xp laptop to logon using an mquser to an AIX server for which both systems have a userer named mquser. The short cut is setup as follow to logn mq explorer as mquser:

Target: C:\WINDOWS\system32\contact admin.exe /env /user:mquser "C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\bin\strmqcfg.exe -d"

Start in: "C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\bin\"

I get the folloing error in the log:
The platform metadata area could not be written: C:\Documents and Settings\gman254\Application Data\IBM\MQ Explorer\.metadata. By default the platform writes its content under the current working directory when the platform is launched. Use the -data parameter to
specify a different content area for the platform.

The correct way to solve this problem is to set up an admin only svrconn, set MCAUSER on it to mquser, and then use SSL to ensure that only the *right* people can connect.
