We have installed Websphere MQ V7.0 for z/OS. Do we need CAF (Client Attachment Feature) if we want to connect WAS from an other LPAR to server connection channel on z/OS queue manager. If there are only 5 client connections to z/OS queue manager, the CAF is not needed. How many connections average production WAS needs to be connected to z/OS qmgr using server connection channel? Did anyone meet with this situation? What to do here? Is CAF must have if we want to connect WAS on different LPARs and machines with z/OS qmgr?

Running production against a z/OS qmgr with client connection without CAF is most certainly an illusion unless your case is very, very specific.

We use routinely between 400 and 1200 channels from WAS to our distributed qmgr....

Enjoy

I believe the 5 free connections are explicitly marked as "not for production use", but only for administrative use.
