Hey all, sorry if this is not the correct area for this type of question.
Is it possible to export MQ Explorer settings, installed on Windows, to a format that can be read by MQ Explorer on Linux?
If any other information is needed, please let me know.
Thanks. |

Yes.
Right-click on "IBM WebSphere MQ" in the Navigator. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Sorry, I should have gone into a bit more detail.
I can Export settings on both OSs just fine. I save them both as a zip file.
However, when I first tried to import settings that I had exported from a Windows version of explorer, into a Linux version, it would not detect the settings as valid. So I opened the zip file and noticed a difference in the filenames in the Windows version, from the filenames in a settings zip exported from a Linux version.
The following is an example of the file name format found inside the zip file of the two platforms.
Windows settings file name format:
com.ibm.mq.explorer.ui.category.conn.info\com.ibm.mq.explorer.jmsadmin.contexts.xml
Linux settings format:
WMQ_Schemes.xml
What I'm wanting to know is, is there a way to tell explorer (via plug-in or other means) to export this in a format that the Linux explorer will like when I try to import it.
I should also note that I'm really just trying to import my connection settings to all of my Q managers. The other explorer settings I'm not really all that concerned about. |

Are you 100% sure you have the same version of the explorer on both machines? My guess would be that you have an old CSD level on the Linux machine. |

Versions are the same.
Linux Version info:
Name: WebSphere MQ
Version: 6.0.2.0
CMVC level: p600-200-060921
BuildType: IKAP - (Production)
Winders version info:
Name: WebSphere MQ
Version: 6.0.2.0
CMVC level: p600-200-060921
BuildType: IKAP - (Production)
I take it that its safe to assume what I'm wanting to do just isn't possible?
I've spent more time than what it would have taken to just enter it all the info manually, When I realized I reached that point that I became determined to try to get the square peg into the round hole. |

I guess not. Shame, I was ready to be impressed when you cracked it.
Still, the writing was on the wall with the reaction of jefflowrey. I commend your determination, and wish you more luck with your next hole, peg-wise. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I need to spend some quality time with various shaped pegs and holes _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Well, what I mean is... that the product should allow this.
It might not, and it might not be a bug that it doesn't. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

OK I finally figured it out.
I only did this for my connection settings, and haven't tried this with any other settings.
It was really pretty simple, yet annoying that I have to do it this way.
1. I extracted all the files from the Windows export.
2. Went into the sub folder com.ibm.ui.conn.info
3. Moved com.ibm.mq.explorer.ui.subcategory.handles.xml out.
4. Renamed the file to WMQ_Handles.xml -- saved.
5. Compressed to a zip file.
6. Imported as normal on the Linux MQ Explorer, restarted.
All is well.
I guess in some cases, it isn't against the rules to reshape the peg to the correct shape then try to put it in! |

So the other question is...
Since this is linux... did you rpm -i the MQ Explorer package from the 6.0.2 FP?
i.e. does rpm -qa show more than one package for the mq explorer component? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I used -ivh per one of the manuals the manual (Quick Beginnings for Linux)
I've only been at this for about 9 months so it is VERY possible that I've overlooked something but the output of my rpm -qa | grep MQSeries is as follows:
MQSeriesJava-6.0.0-0
MQSeriesConfig-6.0.0-0
MQSeriesIES30-U806639-6.0.2-0
MQSeriesConfig-U806639-6.0.2-0
MQSeriesRuntime-6.0.0-0
MQSeriesIES30-6.0.0-0
MQSeriesRuntime-U806639-6.0.2-0
MQSeriesJava-U806639-6.0.2-0
What I do notice now that you've had me go back and look at it is there is no run level displayed here. I'm not smart enough on Linux to know if this is an issue or not, or if the above is correct. I just try to follow the instructions as close as I can. |

I'm not sure what you mean by "no run level" - but that's probably just me.
You do have two entries for MQSeriesConfig, and one of them is the 6.0.2.0 version. So that confirms that you did actually FP the MQ Explorer ... so that isn't the problem you were having. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Err not run level -- 'level'
"6. Repeat step 4, and you will see that the Runtime, SDK and Server packages are
now at level 1:"
QuickBeginings (linux) page 50 of the pdf doc. Reading on I should have called this the "service level". |
