Hi,
we are doing MQ upgrade from 5.3.1 to 6.0 on z/OS in a test environment which has 5 Queue Manager's in a Queue Sharing Group(QSG).
We are running into Virtual Storage issues as below:
Queue manager is using 1085 MB of 127
127 local storage, 1 MB are free
Queue manager is using 1084 MB of 135
135 local storage, 2 MB are free
Please advice.
Regards.,
J K

Storage usage in V6 differs from the storage use in V531, for one there is a 100MB storage area now used by a QMGR that is part of a QSG.
Firstly I would check you region size being used on the QMGR, IBM recommend using 0M to allow the QMGR to get as much storage as it requires. If you do not want to use 0M, try doubling the current region size and restarting the QMGR.
Secondly I would review your bufferpool sizes as they could be contrebuting to the issue, it may be they are oversized and can be reduced.
If the above fails to help, more info on the config of the QMGR is required.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
we have REGION=0M already .
The buffer pools are as:
Buffer pool 0 has 5000 buffers
Buffer pool 1 has 50000 buffers
Buffer pool 2 has 50000 buffers
Buffer pool 3 has 50000 buffers

JK,
Do you have any userwritten exits running on the QMGR?
Also can you advise how long it takes for the storage to fall to a critical level.
Have you checked you have all available PTF's that affect storage creep applied to the V6 code
Cheers,
G |

Hi ,
I have CLWLEXIT and CLSCEXIT running on the QMGR.
It has taken 5 hrs to fall from 99 MB are free to 1 MB are free .
Queue manager is using 987 MB of local 637
637 storage, 99 MB are free
Queue manager is using 1085 MB of 127
127 local storage, 1 MB are free
Can you please list the required PTF's that affect storage creep that need to be applied.
Regards.,
J K

JK,
You will need to research the fixes yourself as I do not have a list of the fixes, IBM will be able to advise of the fixes. Also review the IBM website for technotes on this issue.
To allow you to see what is using all the storage, put internal trace on the QMGR and set a slip trap so when the CSQY222E message is output the system will take a dump. You can review the dump yourself or raise a PMR with IBM and send them the dump.
Details of how to switch internal trace can be found in the MQ Problem Determination guide, details of to set the slip trap can be obtained from your z/OS Systems Programmer.
Cheers,
