Hey guys,

Anyone have any experience using the SendMail node to send a fax with the RightFax service?

I can successfully send a 'fax' via my MS Outlook to our RightFax server using '[RFAX:first.lastname@/FN=123456789]'. It validates in Outlook at after a minute, a reply comes back and contains an empty fax template.

However, trying it via the SendMail node isn't working. I am using the same construct for the "to" field:

Code:
SET OutputRoot.XML.Message."To" = '[RFAX:foo.bar@/FN=' || RTRIM(InputRoot.MRM.sphmail:MessageContent.sphmail:digitalAddress) || ']';

But nothing ever turns up.

Is there something i need to change in the ESQL setup to indicate a FAX? I've checked the PDF and the example only shows the message using a public freeware server for faxing (which no institution will use with data sensitivity issues!).

Ask the fax server admin for any log messages from your tests.

Ask the mail server admin for any log messages...

Switch to using the debug version of the sendmail node and see if that helps...

Switch to v6.1 and use EmailOutput instead of sendmail node...

I wish.. ever tried to get a massive corporation to early adopt? We even had two IBMers from Hearsley here yesterday giving a good presentation on 6.1 and the benefits.. and even they virtually admitted defeat at how obstinate my company is!

Once or twice...

But it's not really "early adoption" at this point. It's, at worst, "early" migration. You should be starting to play with 6.1 in your development environments and identifying an application to be converted first. This won't go into production for at least several months! So by that time, 6.1 will have been out for about a year, and thus pass most standards for "stable".

Ok, probably a silly question, but how does one enable the debug mode on the sendmail node?

When I installed the plugin, I used the .lil file from the debug folder which was the bigger of the two. However I cannot see any options for 'debug' on the node.

Or is it more basic than that?

Also, trace files have shown no errors in the flow.

The node ships with a debug version, you just need to copy that into your bin /lil directory, restart and you are laughing. Well maybe not laughing as this won't magically fix your real problem. Break it down, send by various means without the broker and work from there.

I think the debug version of the node reports information in user trace.

Ok, that's what I did -- copy the debug *.lil file into said dir. I just expected (hoped) to see flashy lights and whizz-bangs for more debug options.

If it's more user trace info then that's cool.

But I think I might have found my issue now. It looks like RightFax *only* seems to work properly thru Outlook -- at least, the RFax hooks which pick up the specially designated tags "RFAX:blah" work in Outlook. *Definitely* not in AIX sendmail and even telnetting to the Exchange server and manually issuing commands fails when I try "RCPT TO:<RFAX:number>" as invalid address.

So, even with the sendmail node debugger, I'm stuck.

But that's for the info guys -- it's still applies for other area of emailing in the project!
