I'm new to JMS programming and Websphere. I need to do a POC with an external Java JMS client reading/writing msgs to WebSphere MQ. I am both the WebSphere Admin and Java developer for this POC unfortunately
I've been searching the net for an example or tutorial that describes configuring WebSphere 6.0.x MQ from the WebSphere admin console, and then writing an external Java JMS client to connect and read and write msgs to the Websphere MQ queue(s). Anyone know of such an example on the web? I've found lots of example code on the web, but can't get it to connect. I'm sure I don't have my Websphere MQ configured correctly.
I'm using the following Websphere. Should I be using its MQ support, or do I need to install a separate MQ pkg?
IBM WebSphere Application Server, 6.0.0.1
Build Number: o0445.08
Build Date: 11/10/04 |

What kind of error are you getting when you can't connect?
If you have WMQ installed, then for starters, I'd suggest that you try running the amqsput and amqsget samples. These will confirm that your WMQ is installed and running. |

Read the WAS admin red books. They will describe how to set up your JNDI to connect. To run an outside app you will need to either run the full J2EE client (rather a big footprint) or set up a file JNDI see JMSAdmin (in using Java)...

Thanks for the replies.
I think my problem was assuming WebSphere MQ was built into the WebSphere app server I had installed on my dev box. I saw the MQ config pages in the WebSphere admin, and assumed it was installed and rdy to be configured. My understanding now is this is not the case. So I downloaded the 90 day eval of WebSphere MQ and am now getting a little further with my sample code.
