Hello,

I am trying to find a utility that will allow me to "replay" messages to a single queue using the MQSeries logs on OS/390. I am aware of a support pac (MO12) that does this, but it is at a subsystem level not the queue level. Has anyone ever heard of this type of tool? Do any of the administration/monitoring tools (Candle, MQSoftware, etc..) do this?

Hi,

Cressida are about to release a tool that matches your description.
I'm not sure if the OS/390 platform will be covered in the first release. If not, it is definitely going to be in one of the next releases.

I have notified Patrick de Wilde, the product manager. I'l have him contact you.

Cheers...Jan.

Hello,

It is true, we are about to release a tool that will allow controlled replay of messages to one or more queues. I am testing it right now, and it looks neat. Too many features to mention here, but unfortunately native z/OS support (or OS/390) is not yet one of them. I am not aware of any other tool on the market that does this.
Send me an e-mail at Patrick.DeWilde@postbox.be if you're interested.

Regards,
Patrick.

If you cannot find a tool, here is a suggestion:

post the MQ messages with the option MQRO_COD_WITH_FULL_DATA.

The consequence is that a copy of the message is stored in another queue specified in the fields ReplyToQ and ReplyToQMgr. The copy is produced when the original message is retrieved from its queue.

This is not the best solution, because you need some operational procedure to ensure that the queue is cleaned or archived periodically. Also the solution is an overhead for MQ Series, because all messages are duplicated.

For these reasons I would not recommend this as an enterprise solution, but only as a solution to solve a specific isolated issue.

Regards,

Thanks for the suggestion. That is actually what we are doing, but I am trying to avoid it if at all possible for the very reasons you specified.
