Workitems are 'personalized copies' of an activity instance.
Means that each workitem is associated to a dedicated owner who has access privileges. |

A workitem, is "like" a pointer to the Activity Instance. This is what I think Volker (hos) is saying.
A little more background.
When a Process Instance is created, the entire process is instantiated, and ALL of the activity instances for that process are created.
As each "activity" comes ready, in most cases, the workitems for that Activity are created.
The workitem exists once the item becomes ready, the Activity Instance is there once the process exists.
My personal goal is to have a 1 - 1 between Activity Instances and Workitems
since the creation of workitems can be quite expensive.
If you have more specific questions, ask away. _________________ John McDonald

Without a doubt WPS is the workflow engine of choice today.
However, MQWF will be supported by IBM for at least another 4-5 years, so it is NOT going away today, and there is going to be needs for support going forward. I seriously doubt that we want to depend on just us old hands to do the necessary support until the product finally sunsets. _________________ John McDonald
